DROWN: Warren Branch "Jersey," 85, of Pleasant Street, Newport, Vt., passed away peacefully in Newport Sunday, Dec. 16, 2001.

He was born in Newport May 16, 1916, the son of Warren B. Sr. and Ruth A. (Lake) Drown.

Jersey graduated from Newport High School and received an associate & #039;s degree in forestry from Penn State College. He was a self-employed forester for the past 20 years, and worked part-time at the Morrisville Water & Light. He also served as forester for the following organizations: Orleans County Forester, Blair-Veneer, Atlas Plywood, North American Philips, and the Newport City Tree Warden.

Jersey was a member of the Society of American Foresters, Vermont Land Surveyors, United Church of Newport, Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, the board of Vermont Wood Land Owners Association, and Masonic Lodge Memphremagog 65 F & AM.

On Dec. 10, 1938, Jersey married the former Gertrude Hall, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Ruth Richard and husband Mike of Newport; his son, Charles Drown and wife Virginia of Newport Center; his grandchildren, Chuck Drown Jr. and wife Sue, Michael Morey and wife Shelly, Kristin Morey, and Sara Richard; his brother, Colin Drown and wife Elizabeth of Conway, N.H.; his great-granddaughter, Jenna Morey; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Friends may call at the Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport, Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport, Thursday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Frank Massa officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport.
