Peter Tatro - Obituary

Peter Tatro, 91, died Friday, May 31, 2019, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center, where he had lived since moving there last year from his longtime home in East Concord.

In his early adult years, Pete served in the U.S. Army, worked in the Gilman Paper Mill, and helped build several of Vermont’s State Colleges. For much of his adult life, he worked as an insurance agent for MetLife, eventually owning and operating the Newman Insurance Agency. Upon retiring, Pete worked part-time building homes with Covell Construction Company. His lifelong interest in civic affairs was evidenced by his many years of service on the Gilman Federal Credit Union’s Board of Trustees, and his term as the Town Clerk of Concord.

Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowshoeing, playing cards, watching NASCAR races, working jigsaw puzzles, grilling out, and supporting his family in many and various ways. He was a 50+ year member of the East Concord United Methodist Church, and the Concord Chapter of the Masonic Lodge. Pete lived by the motto, “Always leave things better than you found them.”

Peter is survived by one son, Bradley Tatro and daughter-in-law, Sandi Kennedy of Stark, N.H.; one daughter and granddaughter from Atlanta, Linda and Katie Herzer; and four siblings: Pat, Charlie and Virginia Tatro and Jan Hazlett. He is also survived by three sister-in-laws, many nieces and nephews, their children and spouses. Pete was pre-deceased by his wife, Lillian, his infant daughter, Sharon, parents, Harry and Virginia, and brother, Fred.

Visiting hours will be held at Bailey Funeral Home, 210 Main St., Lancaster, NH, 03584, on Tuesday, June 4, from 3-4:30. A Celebration of Life Service will be held there immediately following, from 4:30-5.
