All kinds of local businesses are taking terrible hits in the current economy. The most recent are closings at Sheftex (see page one today) and Kimberly Clark Corp..
Also suffering is New England Electric Wire Corp. on North Main Street in Lisbon, where President Wendell Jesseman was forced to furlough 200 workers out of the company\'s 335 employees. Layoffs were split, with 100 idled the last week of November and the other 100 the first week of December. All are expected to be back on the job Monday; in fact, said Jesseman, some extra business allowed the earlier-than-anticipated return of several people.
