Claire Cote returns from Berlin, Germany to present an improvised solo called "Longing" in the Black Box Theater at the Morse Center for Arts at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31 as part of First Night.

"Longing" speaks to the constant, insatiable yearning for something more. She holds on to memories of the past for comfort and is held back from moving forward by the fear of failure, and yet she is constantly searching for something better to come, never satisfied by the present. Dancing is therefore her refuge, where she can feel complete and present.

Cote is a dance and visual artist currently teaching and performing in Berlin, Germany. Prior to Berlin, she taught and performed in Baltimore, Maryland with Effervescent Collective and with high school students in Rui'an, China.
