Sister City Jazz Ambassadors Present Concerts, Talk, Jazz Jam and Celebration of Peace Through Music

The Sister City Jazz Ambassadors build bridges across cultures through the universal language of music.

BETHLEHEM -- The White Mountain School will host four events with the Sister City Jazz Ambassadors during a two-day celebration of the power of music to promote understanding across cultures.

As part of a collaboration between the White Mountain School and the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire, the group will be spending Friday, Nov. 30 and Saturday, Dec. 1 in the North Country, presenting programs including a Friday-evening concert, an informal Jazz Jam for musicians from around the region, a Saturday-morning concert in Lancaster for families and seniors, and a talk about their work as cultural diplomats.

The Sister City Jazz Ambassadors are professional musicians from the Berkshires who have travelled the globe, performing in countries including Italy, Nicaragua and Turkey, and building bridges across cultures through the universal language of music. Members include Andy Kelly, guitar and banjo; Charlie Tokarz, woodwind; Ben Kohn, piano; Jon Haddad, percussion; and James Lumsden, bass.

All of the main events in this two-day celebration of the power of music to build community are open to the public. They include:

â?¢ Nov. 30, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. -- A free jazz workshop for all interested high school students, hosted by The White Mountain School. Pre-registration is required. Call 603-323-7302 to register or with questions.

â?¢ Nov. 30, 7 p.m. -- A jazz concert in the Great Hall of The White Mountain School, 371 West Farm Rd., Bethlehem.

â?¢ Dec. 1, 10:30 a.m. -- Jazz Across the Generations concert for all ages at the Rialto Theatre, 80 Main St., Lancaster, to help celebrate the Rialto's one-year anniversary. For more information call 603-323-7302.

â?¢ Dec. 1, 1:30 p.m. -- Making Peace Through Music A talk about the group's experiences traveling the world promoting peace through music, in The Great Hall of The White Mountain School. The talk will be followed by a meet-the-artists reception.

â?¢ Dec. 1, 3 p.m. -- A community-wide Jazz Jam and informal clinic in which musicians of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join in the joy of making music together, in The Great Hall of The White Mountain School.

"We wanted to bring the Jazz Ambassadors to our school as part of our Cultural Events series," said Becky Beno, cultural events coordinator of The White Mountain School. "We're thrilled that partnering with the Arts Alliance has allowed us to expand the programming to include so many other great activities, and we hope local musicians and music lovers will participate in as many events as they can."
