Students in North Country Charter Academy's Work Study Elective program earn elective credit by completing course requirements in addition to holding down a job, which offers them the opportunity to learn all of the "ins and outs" of being a member of the work force.
Students create resumes, keep a budge, track expenses, fill out tax forms, learn about Social Security, request letters of reference from employers, and submit numerous writing assignments related to their experiences, all in preparation for taking on all of the aspects of holding down a job as an adult. This elective, which is monitored and supervised by NCCA staff, serves as real-life experience and helps the students transition from high school jobs to career-ready young men and women.
NCCA plans to build this program. The North Country Business/Education Symposium held in the fall served as an important platform from which to move forward with plans and programs for schools to collaborate with area employers. NCCA looks forward to more partnerships with local businesses.
