The Youth Advisory Council of Caledonia and southern Essex Counties is a group of students grades 7-12 who work together to promote substance abuse and violence prevention and healthy life choices in our communities. This year, the students have created the first ever Out of the Box Nature Walk.

This free event will be held Saturday, May 17, in the Burke Town Forest from noon to 4 p.m. It will be an all ages, substance-free event that will combine a nature trail walk with various art forms including music making, sculpture, natural paint, bubbles, poetry and more. The idea is to bring people together in a new way. As people walk through the trail, they will communicate with others through various means -- by beating rhythms on drums, by building a sculpture that will be added to by others, or by painting with 100 percent nature friendly materials (mud, flour and water, etc.). All this while taking a great walk and moving in the natural environment. Wear comfortable clothes and prepare to get messy!

There will be activities and information at the trailhead. Any youth-serving organization or agency who wishes to provide a table or an activity please get in touch with one of the following by Thursday, May 15: Kaitlyn Berwick, email: kaitlyn.berwick@stjlabs.com; Chelsea Waldner, email: chelsea.waldner@stjlabs.com; or contact the coordinator, Susan Teske, suetopia.ent@gmail.com, (802) 751-2672 or (802) 274-2951.

Friends and Family are invited to join the group for a day of healthy, outdoor fun-rain or shine!
