The new Jay Kaplan Memorial Scholarship will offer substantial support in the 2012-13 academic year to two Vermont students working toward careers in science and/or finance. Preference for this unique $2,000 scholarship will be given to candidates who have experienced a learning disability.

Jay Kaplan (1941-2008) was a respected science teacher at Essex High School. He served on the board of the Vermont State Teachers' Retirement System for 20 years, as a trustee, then chair, then retired member. He was a champion for the economic security of teachers; his work is credited with protecting the long-term viability of VSTRS pensions and health benefits.

The Jay Kaplan Scholarship will aid students with interests similar to his. Students may learn more and apply at vsac.org, or by contacting VSAC toll-free at 888-253-4819. The deadline is March 9, 2012!
