Vermont Red Sox Scholarship Recipients Honored At Fenway Park

BOSTON, MA -- The Red Sox celebrated Vermont Day at Fenway Park by honoring 10 Vermont public high school students on the field on Aug. 16. The Red Sox Scholarship Program awarded each student a $1,000 scholarship towards his or her college education.

On the field to honor the Green Mountain State students were Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin, Red Sox executive vice president and senior advisor to the president/CEO Charles Steinberg and Red Sox Foundation executive director and director of Special Events Gena Borson.

The scholarship recipients are: Maria Armstrong from Mount Anthony Union High School; Marla Davidson from Harwood Union High School; Joseph Dempsey from Otter Valley Union High School; Ruby Dombek from Vergennes Union High School; Jeremy Ducharme from Hazen Union School in Hardwick; Jenne Hull from Missisquoi Valley Union High School; Elizabeth Kamb from Woodstock Union High School; Makayla Limlaw from North Country Union High School in Newport; Madelyn McCrae from South Burlington High School; and Samuel Reed from Stowe High School.

The Red Sox Service Scholarship program awards students from 10 public high schools in each New England state with $1,000 scholarships. Students are chosen based on academic performance, financial aid eligibility, and most importantly, demonstrated community service. This is the first year the program has been offered in Vermont.
