The fifth- and sixth-grade students at the Good Shepherd Catholic School in St. Johnsbury recently presented a Geography Fair, highlighting 18 different countries in Africa, South America and North America.
Students shared information about the history, culture and geography of their chosen countries through the use of I Pads, Laptops and tri fold boards. They also presented teachers and students with native foods and had them listen to native played music from their chosen countries. Each student also presented a social problem such as hunger or water shortages, described the effects of the problem, and discussed an organization that helps address the problem.
Visitors to the fair voted for the country they felt most needed assistance. The proceeds from a subsequent fund-raising effort by the students will be sent to the charitable organization selected by the winning students.
The winners of the fair, Morgan Eames and Josie Choiniere, taught students about the plight of child soldiers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A contribution will be made to S.O.S. children on their behalf.
