NCUHS PE classes experience the Winter Games

ANNUAL WINTER GAMES AT NCUHS -- The students in Peter Alexander's Physical Education classes at North Country Union High School had another chance to experience the "Winter Games," version 2014. The Winter Week was held two weeks earlier than usual to avoid the "warm spells" that can occur in late February. The students were rewarded with cold weather and great ice. Through the courtesy of the Newport City Recreation Department, the students enjoyed the outdoor opportunities that the Northeast Kingdom has to offer during the winter months. Activities included snow-shoeing, street hockey, ice hockey, ice skating, sliding and the occasional shovel pushing. All the activities took place at Gardner Park. Helping with the events were Andy Cappello, Mac McKenny, Jessica Viens, Alex DeRoehn and Steve Mayo from the Newport City Recreation Department; Wendy Buchanan and the NCU Bus Garage crew; and the NCUHS administration/school board. Pictured are some of the students who participated in the events: front row from left, Chris Zerwek, Zach Hawkins, Alex Cotnoir, Brian Fisher and Devon Davis; back row, Ben Sykes, Brent Nelson, Grant Blake, Dylan Bessette, Quinn Nelson, Jeremy Fontaine, Aaron Sheltra, Danny Guyer and Cody Rosenberger.
