ORLEANS -- Lake Region Union High School recently recognized the accomplishments of three of its seniors.

Emily Millar, of Orleans, has been named as a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist (in the top 1 percent in the nation) for her outstanding performance on the PSAT test, and is currently competing for the opportunity to advance to the Finalist level. Merit scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Jared Wiggett, of Barton, was also recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program as a Commended Student. Commended students (the top 3 percent) were recognized for their exceptional academic promise demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the qualifying test (PSAT) used for program entry. Over 1.5 million students took the qualifying test last October.

Spencer Perry, of Brownington, earned the Johnson State College Scholarship for his distinguished work in and contribution to the Green Mountain Boys' State Program this past June. The Boys' State Program involved 131 delegates from over 50 Vermont high schools in attendance. This premier leadership program for rising high school seniors was designed as a learning laboratory modeled on town, county and state governmental operations.
