Leroi Jones/Amiri Baraka

To the Editor:

I hope this newspaper can and will accommodate my brief -- yet with a deep sense of respect for his lifelong focus on social justice for all people -- acknowledgement of the death of Leroi Jones/Amiri Baraka yesterday, January 9, at his home in Newark.

I am honored to have known and been chosen at the age of 17 by Amiri to be one of the poets he edited and published in Four Young Lady Poets, the only contemporary anthology of women poets of the "beat generation."

May all racism, its causes and conditions dissolve.
