Moving Planet Vermont rally

To the Editor:

This coming Saturday, Sept. 24, from 2-6 p.m., an anticipated one thousand Vermonters will gather at the State House for the Moving Planet Vermont climate action rally,

During the rally speakers will be making six "asks" of our political leaders. These are for Green Jobs for All, 100% Renewable Energy for All, Local and Healthy Food for All, Energy Efficient Homes and Buildings for All, Green Transport for All, and Community Forests for All. Participants will also personally be able to put their name on a card with the six asks that will be delivered to the governor.

Participants will also be given the opportunity to make personal "gives" by taking a very powerful pledge to live more sustainably. The pledge says that within three to five years the signer agrees to the extent possible and applicable to take action to reduce their personal green house gas emissions. The ten actions include such items as installing solar hot water or photovoltaic, driving a fuel efficient car, and growing at least some of their own food. If people cannot attend the rally they can see who has already taken the pledge and take the pledge themselves at

Reducing Vermont green house gas emissions of approximately eight million tons per year, require both government action and personal action. I urge all Vermonters to attend the rally and sign both the "ask" cards and the "give" cards.
