Most of the day shift workers were sent home early Tuesday at Ethan Allen Inc.'s Orleans Division plant as it was hard hit by flooding from the adjacent Barton River.

Heavy rains Monday night sent water into the factory's boiler room and rough mill, necessitating the boiler's shutdown, said Lucien Vallieres, a boiler room fireman.

Contacted soon after the start of last night's evening shift, Vallieres said the plant was in operation but added he didn't know "for how long, as it's raining again!"
