WEST DANVILLE — A Joe’s Pond camp owner found the body of a man floating about 30 feet from shore Wednesday morning.
Vermont State Police identified the victim as John Allen, 63, of St. Johnsbury.
Vaden Cobb, who owns a camp on Narrows Drive with his wife, said he saw something in the water and took his kayak out to investigate. He determined it was a body and alerted authorities about 5:50 a.m.
Ambulance personnel from CALEX and Danville Rescue responded along with Vermont State Police.
The body of the deceased male was brought to shore and covered while awaiting a state police detective to arrive to investigate. Trooper David Upson was on scene first for VSP. He said he could not comment.
CALEX Director Michael Wright responded as a medical examiner because there was a deceased person. He said once the state police investigator authorized removal of the body, Sayles Funeral Home would transport the body.
Narrows Drive is accessed off of Route 15 by first taking Old Homestead Road, then Otis Drive.
Detective Sergeant Mark Potter reported that Allen's family owns two camps located on Joe's Pond in West Danville.
Allen's body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine cause and manner of death.
