Of the three Northeast Kingdom legislators who did not sign a letter supporting District 7 Environmental Commissioner Leniy Zenonos, two explained the reason why their signature did not accompany 17 of their peers.

The letter was signed by every NEK legislator except Reps. Nancy Sheltra, R-Derby, Steve Larrabee, R-West Danville, and Paul Cillo, D-Hardwick.

"I wasn't asked to sign it. I never saw the letter. I was not aware of it until it came out in the press," explained Sheltra, who then expressed a wish she had been given the chance to do so.

"I would have signed if I had been aware of it," she revealed. "Leniy has been doing a good job and he gives balance to the board."

Larrabee said that for him it was a question of not being familiar with all of the parties and issues involved. "I didn't feel like signing something I wasn't completely familiar with," he said.

Cillo was not available for comment.
