A recent report shows local police agencies are rarely blamed for using excessive physical force when dealing with lawbreakers, and in most cases, agencies have video footage to help confirm proper police behavior, or not.

A GateHouse Media report on a 2016 survey by the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics looked at data collected from 4,000 law enforcement agencies across the U.S. about complaints of police brutality. GateHouse discovered some inaccuracies in the data after contacting some agencies directly and established the government needs to do a better job in tracking citizen complaints of the excessive use of force by law enforcers throughout the country.
