BURLINGTON — A federal judge on Thursday ordered a New Hampshire man remain in custody in connection with a firearms charge that prosecutors say connects him with a Northeast Kingdom murder last fall.

John E. Welch, 33 of North Haverhill, N.H., appeared in U.S. District Court Thursday for a hearing to determine whether he would remain in jail or be released after being charged with a federal firearms violation last week.
