NEWPORT CITY — About 70 lawmakers, mayors, officials and media from Quebec and Vermont filled the state office conference room on the waterfront Monday morning to talk about the future of international Lake Memphremagog given the proximity of the state’s only landfill in Coventry.

Action from the summit is expected in the Vermont Legislature, with Vermont lawmakers from Orleans County saying they want a seat on an international Great Lakes Legislative Caucus where the chemicals in leachate from landfills has been discussed.
