Two days after a Dalton resident said Casella Waste Systems CEO John Casella wants to give the town of Dalton a gift of $50,000 to $100,000, a Whitefield resident, through a letter to the editor, gave Casella a matching challenge donation.

“I wrote the letter obviously a bit tongue-and-cheek, but it is a serious offer,” Eliot Wessler, a Forest Lake resident who lives near Dalton, where Casella seeks to put a 180-acre landfill, said Friday.
