TOPSHAM, Maine (AP) — Police say a 5-year-old girl attacked by a dog suffered injuries serious enough that a LifeFlight Helicopter was summoned.

Police said the dog's owners were babysitting the child when she was bitten in the face. The girl suffered severe facial lacerations.

Police say she was taken by helicopter to Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Police said the owners of the dog are cooperating with the investigation, and that no charges are expected. The dog is expected to be euthanized.
