HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Teams of runners are racing across southern New England in a relay that will highlight the growing East Coast Greenway.

Saturday's inaugural RIMACONN relay, sponsored by the Hartford Marathon Foundation, will have team members taking turns running sections of the greenway from Lincoln, Rhode Island to Hartford, Connecticut and passing through a section of Massachusetts along the way.

Organizers say 85 percent of the 95-mile course will be on greenway trails, including the Blackstone River Bikeway, Southern New England Trunkline Trail, Air Line Trail, Hop River Trail and Charter Oak Greenway.

The course is split into 18 relay legs with an exchange zone between each one.

The East Coast Greenway is planned to eventually link 3,000 miles of trails, many along abandoned rail beds, from Maine to Florida.
