BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island 16-year-old has been charged with harassing and extorting girls to send him naked photographs of themselves, which he then shared with other people, police said.
The teenager, who has not been identified because of his age, was in possession of a “large quantity of images and videos consistent with child pornography," Burrillville police Maj. Dennis Leahey said in a statement.
The teen was arrested Tuesday after turning himself in at police headquarters, accompanied by his parents.
He was presented in Family Court in Providence and ordered held at the Rhode Island Training School, the state’s youth detention center, Leahey said.
The charges against him include extortion, distribution of child pornography, possession of child pornography and cyber harassment.
Leahey said the boy was found to have the same contacts as a 19-year-old man arrested on child-porn charges earlier this month.
