Last Friday night, a young man who is a student at Danville High School and a senior member of its basketball team, helped defeat an opponent on the court. Then he took off his basketball uniform, put on his junior firefighter's uniform, and helped put out a fire at his own house on the Thaddeus Stevens Road. Jacob Roy accomplished these feats with poise and calm. He intimated that he was just doing his job.
We think Jacob's performances go way beyond his 'all-in-a-day's-work' modesty. He's a kid and his house was on fire. Yet his superior, Danville Fire Chief Troy Cochran said this about his performance, "I am impressed and especially proud of Roy who, despite his burning house, insisted on performing his junior firefighter duties by running equipment back and forth from the apparatus to the scene. He kept a very level head," said Cochran. "He did a heck of a job."
