A resident of Westford, Vermont, says a sculpture of a giant middle finger is intended for town officials.
Ted Pelkey spent approximately $4,000 for the towering wooden finger. He says he erected the gesture on his property because the town won’t let him develop his truck and recycling business there.
According to the Associated Press, the Westford select board is leaving the finger alone on the grounds that it’s a display of public art.
We don’t know enough about the board to say if the gesture is warranted. But we have to give them credit for making the appropriate read of Pelkey’s First Amendment rights.
