Last week the Vermont Supreme Court ruled against a citizens group petitioning the South Burlington School District over the school’s mascot name change.

The controversy began last year with a unanimous decision by the South Burlington school board to drop the name “Rebels.” That decision ruffled a few feathers, sparked death threats and a stalking charge, and caused a school budget defeat from a community that traditionally supports education.
