While thinking about the holiday season, we couldn & #039;t help but notice a recent new item about land and religion.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a frequent target of criticism by the Rev. Jerry Falwell, is now coming to the evangelist & #039;s aid.

It seems the ACLU will file a friend-of-the-court brief on behalf of Falwell & #039;s federal lawsuit against the state of Virginia and the city of Lynchburg.

Falwell is challenging restrictions on how much land a church can own. He contends the law violates the First Amendment guarantee of religious freedom.

"We agree with your position that such laws discriminate against religion," ACLU legal director Rebecca Glenberg wrote to Falwell.

Since the ACLU is right, we - and most Americans of all faiths - hope the Rev. Falwell wins his lawsuit.
