To the Editor:
I thought it was a fact that all of our representatives in Congress swore allegiance to the United States of America, its Constitution and its laws. Yet, I see that among the 12 members of the newly formed committee to deal with the nations debt -- the "Super Congress," that six of them (all Republicans, by the way) have signed a pledge to one Grover Norquist saying that under no circumstances will any of them ever vote for any sort of tax increase, no matter the situation, no matter how dire the circumstances of the USA may be, or to whom the taxes may apply.
I find this situation outrageous, and furthermore, though not a lawyer, I think this falls under the category of "high crimes and misdemeanors," offenses referred to in Article II - Section 4 of the U.S Constitution, which are punishable by impeachment.
These Senators and Congressmen are sworn FIRST to follow the Constitution of this country and the laws that derive from it; they are not primarily disciples of some ideologue, whether on the left or the right of our political spectrum.
