To the Editor:
Rutgers University published a Fri, March 30, 2018 online article titled “What’s hidden under the $15.00 minimum wage? Higher Taxes.” It’s a good compliment to some of the other thoughtful opinions expressed by your readers on the same subject. The bottom line though is that hidden taxes, such as the minimum wage, can be used to sucker the support of voters; and then taxes in every form can be used to hammer the public into serfdom. For that reason vigilance is necessary.
And just because conditions aren’t that bad yet, doesn’t mean that it will never happen. Please, don’t let Jeffrey Reel and those like him lull you into complacency with a graphical snap shot of a nice linear increase in the minimum wage for the past 71 years. That is no guarantee for the future and such things do change, especially when tax and spend radicals want to take over the country. John McClaughry and the Ethan Allen Institute staff have played an important societal role by doing their best to keep our country’s economic blood suckers at bay. Let’s be sure to thank them for their hard work.
