Bear attack on horse?

To the Editor:

As a rider and owner of horses, I was concerned to see the article "Horse Murder a Mystery" on the front page of the Caledonian-Record (Weekend Edition, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1).

First, I would like to offer sympathy to Ken and Paula Carpenter for the loss of their horse on Mt. Pisgah Road to an apparent animal attack.

I am a wildlife communications consultant living in the Northeast Kingdom. I wrote a book, "Swamp Screamer," on the endangered Florida panther (a type of puma, or catamount), and another book on bears, published in 2005 by Stackpole Books.
