To the Editor:
Please review your article on the Gilman Housing Trust dated Nov. 16, 2001. Would you do an additional story on the land trusts and list both the positive and negative side of this issue? You did the public a terrible injustice.
The Gilman Housing Trust apparently carefully manipulated The Caledonian-Record into producing an article which paints a rosy picture and does not cover all sides of housing trusts. Reading your article would lead any normal person to conclude that Gilman Housing Trust has only a positive effect on the community. Here is the negative side:
1. According to them, over $7 million in taxpayer money was used to fund the Housing Trust in Northern Vermont and New Hampshire this year alone.
2. Do we want the government at the state and federal level renting subsidized apartments and houses to a significant number of citizens? The qualifications are listed in "Apartments for Rent," Section 605 of your paper. Income can be as high as $14,700 and higher.
