Let me tell you about the real Bob Lewis

To the Editor:

As a former legislator I'd like to tell you about my former district mate in the Vermont House, Bob Lewis of Derby, who is now running for the Vermont Senate.

If you are looking for a boastful, fast talking candidate that tries to wow you with lies or half-truths, don't vote for Bob. On the other hand, if you want a senator who listens to people, consider voting for him. Many candidates talk about more laws. Bob has worked to pass laws, but he has also helped kill bad bills before they became laws. He doesn't think more laws are always the answer. If you think more taxes are the answer, Bob probably isn't the man for you. He knows there is no such thing as free money, and people can't afford more taxes.

Bob has spent his life quietly giving back to his community. Before retiring as a Fish and Wildlife Warden he was a state trooper known for his commonsense. For the past several years he served in the VT House. I have known Bob throughout all those phases, and while many people talk a whole lot about themselves, in all of his professions, and in his day-to-day life, Bob talks about "we". He has always been a team player in his professional, legislative, and personal life.

I'm particularly proud of the fact that Patty Komline, the former Republican minority leader, endorsed a Democrat instead of Bob. For me this is proof that Bob isn't afraid to ruffle feathers in his own party when it comes to representing his constituents. He understands that he is in Montpelier to represent the people, all people, not just people of his party.

That is the Bob Lewis I know, a man you can trust, just an ordinary guy who cares.
