Recently, the most influential small-business membership groups in Vermont formed a coalition called the Vermont Business Coalition (www.govbc.org). The coalition is raising money to support state legislative candidates who will support the interests of small-business in Vermont. This initiative is important for a couple of reasons. More than 96 percent of businesses in Vermont are small businesses; legislative and regulatory policies have become increasingly burdensome and especially harmful. These policies include high taxes, excessive fees, regulatory challenges, and insurance costs, both health insurance and workers' compensation insurance.
In Vermont, NFIB understands the importance of working with lawmakers and government officials at the state and federal levels to achieve small-business initiatives during the legislative session and during ongoing policy debates.
NFIB/VT promotes an economic climate that is conducive to the growth of small business and works with organizations, associations, and regulatory and elected officials to improve the economic well-being of Vermonters. The maintenance and creation of desirable jobs to grow existing businesses and attract new investment is paramount to this effort.
NFIB/VT supports sound fiscal policies, initiatives that encourage strong economic development programs, reasonable environmental regulations, reliable and cost effective energy resources and improvement of our transportation system.
NFIB/VT advocates public policy positions that do not increase Vermont's tax burden or impose additional burdensome mandates on Vermont's small businesses.
I am a member of NFIB for these reasons and I support NFIB's efforts as a member of the Vermont Business Coalition, which is working to elect business-minded candidates.
As businesspeople we must know where the candidates stand on issues and we must know how they voted on our issues. We must vote to support business-minded candidates; our businesses depend on it!
