To the Editor:

I am writing to express my concerns over the misinformation and the rhetoric that are being put forth to baffle the public regarding the truth about why teacher salary is such an issue in our district. One hears in the streets that teachers are "overpaid" and "greedy"; I propose otherwise and only ask that you consider my point of view.

Our local high school & #039;s teacher contract has 14 salary steps and teachers go up a step for every year they teach. This is not so for any of the elementary schools in the Caledonia North Supervisory Union. For years we have been held back from earning thousands of dollars that teachers in the designated local high school, doing the same job, have already earned.

In our schools there is an extremely wide gap between the number of actual years of teaching experience and salary-step placement.

Let me illustrate this by my personal situation:
