Proposed Cooley-Jericho Community Forest

To the Editor:

As a committed resident of the North Country, I am writing in support of the proposed Community Forest that is about to be voted on at the next Town meeting in Easton, Franconia, Landaff and Sugar Hill. This is a unique opportunity for these towns, and the region as a whole to preserve and maintain control of a part of the natural landscape that makes this area such a special place.

With these four towns owning this land in perpetuity, and making their own decisions about how the land is to be used for the benefit of the local people, we have the chance to retain control over our landscape. This opportunity comes in a time where we are so often beset by forces such as the Northern Pass entities, who wish to impose their designs upon us for their own ends.

It has been a year in the making, with much time and effort expended by a diverse, enthusiastic group of individuals from these four towns and surrounding towns, all of whom have different areas of expertise, but who share the goal of local resource management for the long term.

Please review the information that will be sent out to all voters in the four towns, and support this project that will be a positive asset to our region.
