It\'s hilarious that John Kerry is being chastised by the media for not having a campaign theme. (Note to Kerry: \It\'s Everything, Stupid!\ may be a good one). Yet we\'re not calling Bush on his unconscionable campaign theme: Re-elect me, or you will not be safe.
What a joke. The same people who give Bush high marks for national security also generally think we\'ll be attacked again. I guess that means the Patriot Act, higher airline ticket prices, the war in Iraq and other purported \homeland security\ items are a complete waste of money and freedom, right?
The same people who are happy to have a tax cut don\'t seem to like to do math: What is a $300-$600 tax cut when college tuition, health insurance premiums and gas prices have done double-digit increases over the past three years?
The same people who think Bush has brought \fiscal discipline\ to the office have seemed to forgotten about the gargantuan budget deficit - which gets bigger all the time.
Bush also appears to have gotten some accounting practice from his buddy Kenneth Lay from Enron: Bush lied about how much his Medicare/drug company giveaway was going to cost, but hey, what\'s a hundred-and-some-odd billion dollars of taxpayer waste?
High marks for a strong economy? I don\'t think so. His supporters can scream all they want about the stock market and productivity gains, but it all comes down to a simple and telling question: Are there more jobs than there were four years ago? No, there are about 2 million fewer; a loss not seen since the Great Depression. Funny thing is, Bush assured us jobs would be created as a direct result of his tax giveaways. BTW: If the GOP cannot create jobs with control of both houses of Congress and the presidency, then they cannot do it. Elected for bringing a new moral standard to the office? Bush lied repeatedly about why we\'re in Iraq, lied about WMDs, lied about links between Saddam and bin Laden, lied in the State of the Union Address, and has even tried to protect himself and his staff from accountability in the 9/11 disaster.
The thing that troubles me the most is how carefully Bush and his team have constructed these lies, misstatements and insinuations. It\'s sinisterly brilliant. But if the Bush administration was just as careful planning and carrying out his Iraq war, we probably wouldn\'t have a single shot fired or American casualty.
It\'s a good thing Bush didn\'t lie about having sex with an intern - he might have been impeached!
