Remembering two late Green St.artists and good guys
To the Editor:
The September 2010 and 2008 deaths of former Green Street, St. Johnsbury natives, the late Craig Maynard (SJA 1976) and Stephen Hale (SJA 1979), prompts a short tribute to and fond reminiscence of two great fellows and home grown nationally recognized artistic talents.
Both Craig and Stephen were gifted from an early age with the deft hand eye skills of the artist along with stellar senses of humor (and the abilities to recite famous movie scripts verbatim with the appropriate intonations of each actor being mimicked). While Craig focused on periodical illustrations in the Far West and Stephen more on the paintbrush in New York City, each as adults brought out the fruits of many earlier years of hard work at perfecting their respective crafts. Both men were well-liked and respected not only in their Green Street-Boynton Avenue-Hastings Hill neighborhoods but also among their many friends and classmates in the St. Johnsbury public schools and at St. Johnsbury Academy.
Rest in peace friends. You both brought much in the ways of artistic skills and friendship to the mix "back in the day" that many of your old neighborhood and school friends still remember and celebrate today.
