Response To Gun Laws Letter

To the Editor:

I am a manager in the sporting goods section at Farm-way in Bradford, Vermont, which would include the firearms department. A letter to the editor was published inferring we are implementing a 24-hour waiting period after someone passes a federal background check. We have not required an additional waiting period for anyone who has passed their background check and do not plan to until the state requires us to do so. We have stated to those who asked that the law is on its way to potentially being put in place but we have not begun the extra waiting period as it is not required at the present time. I’m not sure if there was a misunderstanding or miscommunication with this particular customer but the only people who cannot leave after successful completion of the background check are those delayed by the FBI for further review, or those who are denied. If and I want to make sure to clearly state “IF” the bill in question does go through it would have implications on both in store purchases and private party transfers that would be facilitated by a Federal Firearms Licensee. For the time being that is not the case and we will not make people wait beyond the requirement of the law.

Thank You.
