On Nov. 11, 1918, German representatives signed a truce between Germany and the Allies in a railroad car in the forest of Compiegne, France.

We now know the First World War was not the war to end all wars. Members of our armed forces were later to serve in the Second World War, in Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm.

But we also know America continues to owe a debt of gratitude to all the veterans who served to defend our nation's freedom.
