Friends of Melissa Jenkins have established a perpetual scholarship as a permanent memorial to honor her life and her dedication and devotion to her students. A scholarship in her name will be awarded annually to a graduating senior at Danville High School, Melissa's alma mater as a member of the Class of 1996. The award will be made on the basis of a candidate's demonstration of those traits that Melissa best exhibited -- friendship, leadership, development and support of youth as a teacher and a coach and commitment to and support of family and friends. A preference will be given to candidates who plan to enter an accredited college program in the field of primary or secondary education.

All funds donated will be deposited in a trust account for the sole purpose of establishing and funding this perpetual scholarship. Donations may be left at the school or sent to the Danville School at 148 Peacham Road, Danville, VT 05828. Checks should be made out to the "Melissa Jenkins Scholarship Fund, c/o the Danville School." These funds will be deposited in a professionally managed trust account at Passumpsic Savings Bank. The scholarship will be funded from the income of the trust. This will insure the permanence of the scholarship. All donations are tax deductible in accordance with IRS regulations.

A selection committee comprised of two members of the school faculty and administration and two members of the community will be established to review the applications of candidates and to select the annual scholarship recipient.

A permanent plaque will be placed in a prominent location at the Danville School as a remembrance of Melissa's contributions and to recognize the annual scholarship recipients.
