St. Johnsbury Academy will host the ninth annual Community Heroes Celebration Dinner on April 29. At this event, Northeast Kingdom residents will have an opportunity to honor area volunteers who have demonstrated exceptional community spirit. SJA is currently soliciting nominations of area volunteers who will be recognized at the dinner.
Inspired by the Academy-founded Community of Concern program, launched in 2002 with the goal of improving the quality of life for area youth and their families, the dinner was started in 2006 to recognize volunteers whose unsolicited efforts contribute to the richness and quality of life in northeastern Vermont.
Nominations can be submitted through April15 to Sarah Garey, Community of Concern coordinator, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by mail, 1000 Main St., St. Johnsbury, VT 05819. Nominations should include a detailed explanation of why the person nominated deserves recognition and the nominator's contact information so the selection committee can seek additional information if necessary. The selection committee asks that all nominations be kept confidential.
The April 29 dinner is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. in the Academy's Streeter Hall cafeteria. The celebration will feature live entertainment and a healthful meal prepared by the Academy's Cooking for Life program. The dinner is co-sponsored by Vermont Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Tickets, which are free to the first 200 people, are available by calling (802) 748-7718.
