Therapy dogs visit Brighton Elementary students

A DOGGONE GOOD TIME! -- Brighton Elementary School received a Children's Literacy Foundation (CLiF) Year of the Book Grant sponsored by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters this year. Susan Vera, the school librarian, was instrumental in applying for this grant. Wendy Wright, the preschool teacher, was then able to apply for a mini grant which focused on a dog therapy/literacy project. Jen Montillion and her therapy dog Baxter, and Cynthia Kern and her therapy dog Andy visited the preschool throughout the school year. The students read books to the dogs and created picture books about their experiences. They also designed therapy dog bookmarks and made dog bone biscuits for their four-legged friends. The therapy dog handlers and the students were presented books about therapy-working dogs. Pictured with ther four-footed friends are: kneeling, Jen Montillion, Baxter, Sabella Phillips, Jaelyn Henault, Haley Lacourse, Finley Holler, Andy and Cynthia Kern; standing, Luke Gray, Wyatt Driscoll, Gunner Brown, Wendy Wright, Saulius Bachand, Teagan Cushing and Natalie Lawson.
