PSB branch closing bad for Main Street
To the Editor:
I was saddened and very disappointed to read that Passumpsic Savings Bank intends to close their Main Street branch. This will make the bank less accessible to many in this town, including myself. I guess the customer on foot just doesn't matter as much as the person who needs their financial adviser services.
This will diminish pedestrian traffic on Main Street which is a shame. Oh, but there is another branch just 1300 feet away! What wasn't mentioned is that 1300 feet requires going up and down a major hill. That is not an easy walk for older residents and during the winter could be quite dangerous with snow and ice.
I have my favorite tellers there who know me and my banking needs. I expect that at the larger branch on Railroad Street, that personal touch will disappear. This closure will also make going to the bank an extra trip for me. I work on Main Street and it was so easy and convenient to stop at the bank on my way to work.
I know the bank says it won't reconsider their decision but I urge them to do so. Closing this branch is just the wrong thing to do for the Main Street neighborhood.
