To the Editor:
I am beginning to think if we had one person in the town of St. Johnsbury that had one ounce of common sense, be it the select board or town employees, maybe something could get done right for a change. After all isn't that what everyone in town wants, change? Well here are a few suggestions.
The select board should make sure when something needs to be done it is done right. Managing taxpayer's money should be of the utmost importance. For example, using two trucks and four men to patch holes on Breezy Hill Road is wasting money. Grading our back roads by just skimming the surface is wasting money. I can't speak for all the back roads but Bible Hill Road is horrible. There are approximately 30 houses on 1 ½ miles and there is no service. I think all of our tax dollars must be going out to pay wages and benefits, leaving no money to do any actual work.
My suggestion is, let grader man do it right or don't do it at all. Layoff all dead weight and hire them back when they are needed or contract the work out. There is obviously not enough work when you see two men riding around in an empty truck doing absolutely nothing.
So this is the point, we taxpayers must be accountable for everything we do so let's make the select board and town employees do the same in all departments, if not they can join Mr. Nelson.
