What are we going to do?

To the Editor:

There are a lot of things in life that most of us can turn our heads and say "oh well " that is what happens in life and there is nothing we can do about this. We sit there and cry why can these things happen and why can't we stop this.

I am sick of hearing about all these babies dying for reasons that could have been prevented. My wife and I bring tears to our eyes when we talk about these beautiful children that are beaten to death or drugged to death whether on purpose or accident it does not matter. The parents that have drugs in their homes whether legal or not should be accountable for the deaths of the children. I didn't know till the other day that the drug place on Portland St. sends these addicts home with a week or so supply of their drug. Why is this happening, was this the norm when this group went to the select board to put this together did they tell them that they would send them home with a weeks or more worth without getting more permission? Maybe this was in our 3 select board committee days when no one else had a voice, do you all remember that unfavorable 1 to 2 years. Hopefully the town will not drop to that low of status to reelect those people that nearly wreak our town in my opinion and many others.

So what can we do to help stop this from happening to our children and I do not care what the St. j. elite thinks because these children are going to be part of our community for many years know matter what you think of them so get off your high horse and help out these kids by supporting shelters and all the other kids that do not have a family to take care of them.

My wife and I have never asked or looked for praise but we have helped a lot of kids because we knew their parents and they all respected us and called us mom and dad and they never stole from us because we did what ever we could for them and never asked for a dime except for respect from them and that is what most of them want. We still do it today and I will try and protect them the best I can as long as they do not break the law or disrespect us.

All I ask if there are others that will treat these kids with respect then there would be a lot of problems solved.

Lets find some summer jobs for these kids to give them respect for themselves and want to keep on and make a living. If me do not help these kids guess what we are going to have these gangs starting and once that starts I am sorry it is to late just ask Rutland and Burlington and so on.

Please lets get together and forget your "class in society" and help us help these forgotten kids. You might never know it could be one of yours one day so lets start now.
