CANAAN — About 20 local and state-level education leaders met Thursday at Canaan High School to discuss formation of an interstate secondary school district to serve three school districts on both sides of the Connecticut River in northern New Hampshire and Vermont.

Monday marked the opening day of high school football practice around Vermont. Lyndon opens its regular season with an Aug. 30 tilt at Woodstock. North Country begins its year with a home game against U-32 on Aug. 30. St. J Academy begins its campaign home against Essex on Aug. 31.

BURLINGTON, VT — MENTOR Vermont recently announced the start of the 2019-2020 Vermont Mentoring Grants application process. These annual grants are designed to support new and existing youth mentoring programs in Vermont that match adult volunteers as mentors for youth mentees (ages 5-22) in long-term, one-to-one, quality-based mentoring relationships.

St. J Academy went unbeaten, topping Mount Mansfield 14-8 in the championship game of the Hilltoppers’ annual 7-on-7 football tournament at Fairbanks Field on Saturday. North Country Union took third place, beating Mt. Abraham 32-24 in the consolation game. Seven high schools competed (Woodstock, Spaulding and Hanover, N.H.) in the passing-only event. Trey Alercio (St. J) and Jack Young (NCU) were under center for their respective schools. High school practice for Vermont teams officially starts in two weeks.
