NEK — Attitude. When the beginning of a 24 hours multi-discipline race involves paddling into a steady if not howling headwind, endurance athletes say attitude trumps athleticism and most everything else.

The granite industry has been a huge economic driver for Vermont and especially the Barre area. I have always had an interest in the industry and have written about it in the past as recently as last year when I wrote about the Millstone Hill trails. My maternal grandfather worked in the granite industry and died of silicosis, what was then called granite cutter’s lung, when my mother was just one year old.

Tickets are available starting today via their online store. Visit www.schillingbeer.com for additional information. Schilling Beer Co. is a European-inspired award-winning craft brewery located along the Ammonoosuc River in Littleton, NH.

They started June 30 and only have 15 more paddling days left on the trip. They have raised $1,415 of their $5,000 fundraising goal at gofundme.com/mississippi-r-magog-conservation. (Courtesy Photo)

I am happy that the new gun legislation in Vermont bans the possession of “bump stocks”, something I had never heard of prior to the Las Vegas murders. Although I try to keep up on firearms and regularly attend the massive annual SHOT Show in Las Vegas where just about any firearm imaginable and anything related is on display, I didn’t even know there was such a thing.
