BARTON — Barton Electric plans an overnight outage the night of Tuesday, June 18, for crucial system upgrades for the transmission line feeding the municipal utility.

National Grid Ventures, the company proposing a new transmission line called Granite State Power Link through the Northeast Kingdom, expressed optimism following Massachusetts’ preparation to select a renewable power project other than the beleaguered Northern Pass in New Hampshire.

Seven years after being proposed, Northern Pass is nearing a decision by the N.H. Site Evaluation Committee, which in February is expected to issue an oral decision on whether to grant a permit for the project much opposed in the North Country.
