COLEBROOK - Erin Gigiello was a force on Wednesday afternoon by whirling the Profile Patriots to the top 13-2 for their eighth win of the season. On the mound, Gigiello didn't walk a single Mohawk and at bat she lashed three hits.
quot;Erin made good pitches and she hit the ball well too. She had at least five RBIs to help her cause,quot; said her coach Jeff Soule. quot;We played some solid defense and I'm most pleased with that. We've been making some stupid plays here and there and that's a bad habit to get into. We hit some solid balls too. We've been playing pretty good team softball.quot;
What looked like a blowout for the Profile girls, who had eight runs in the first two innings, became a 5-2 game over the final five innings. Gigiello, a senior, fanned seven in the seven-hitter. Four of those were split between Sarah Gooch and Kacy Beloin. The other two came from Jayne Tarkelson and Amy Parker.
quot;We went seven innings with a good team. We brought our game up a level today and didn't (allow 15 runs) again,quot; Colebrook coach Bob Unganst said. quot;We're a young team. No seniors again. We're getting stronger.quot;
A Niki Rambak double and a dropped fly ball contributed to the Patriots' first three runs. Profile was pounding away when the Mohawks' 10th-grade pitcher, Sara Edwards, struck out two in a row in the second inning with the bases loaded before Gigiello drove in two of the five runs that frame.
Tanya Reardon nailed a solo home run in the fifth for in the Patriots' eight-hit attack. They were also given seven free passes.
Colebrook ended the shutout in the fourth when Beloin singled and Amy Parker sent her home. Beloin scored again in the sixth.
Over the first two innings, the Patriots built a comfortable lead, but the Mohawks battled to make the game go a full seven innings.
Colebrook will host Stratford on Friday and Profile will travel to Stratford on Saturday for a doubleheader with Pittsburg begining at 10:30 a.m.

COLEBROOK - The Mohawks and the Patriots slugged it out on Wednesday night with Profile prevailing 13-8. They both left the game with an even 5-5 record.
Each team found eight hits apiece with half of those of the extra-base variety. The difference came down to making the plays and Colebrook couldn't seem to do it in the clutch on this afternoon. Profile scored eight of its runs with two outs in the late innings.
Patriot coach Jim Payette pointed out that his team has been playing good baseball all sesaon and this was an example.
quot;Our team as a whole played very good defense. Offensively we came alive. We hang in there,quot; he said. quot;We were hoping Ryan Ingerson could pitch into the third inning and he did.quot;
The Mohawks took the lead early. Eric Biron scored the first run and Kevin Trask claimed the RBI. Profile grabbed the lead with two runs in the second while Eric Ronci ripped the first of his pair of doubles.
Colebrook regained the lead with three runs in the third. Biron smashed a solo circuit clout over the fence in left field. Trask rapped a double and Shawn Parker claimed two rbis. The Patriots put Joe Sveda in to pitch.
Profile made it a 4-3 ballgame in the fourth. With the bases loaded, Colebrook changed pitchers from Seth Boutin to Trask. Sveda raced home on a Ryan Ingerson grounder that trapped a Patriot between bases for an out. In the next inning, the Mohawks weren't able to escape cleanly.
quot;We're ahead 4-3 with two outs and the pitcher hasn't thrown three pitches,quot; Mohawk coach Tim Purrington said. quot;A ground ball and we should have been out of it in five pitches. Four runs later we finally get that third out. You've got to be able to catch the ball. We do it to ourselves. You don't make the plays, you're not going to win.quot;
With two outs, Colebrook got into bases-loaded hot water by missing the routine grounder. One run was walked in, then an Ingerson liner escaped the outfielder allowing three more Patriots to race home.
Trailing 7-4, Colebrook came back with three runs to pull even on doubles by John Gilbert and Tony LaPerle, his second hit of the game, but the troubles weren't over for the tribe. With two outs again in the sixth, Profile got big blows from Dave Burns with a triple and both Sveda and Ronci. Sveda scored four runs for the game on three walks and two hits. Colebrook didn't rally again though Boutin singled in one final run with two out in the seventh.
Profile was the one still standing when the slugfest ended.
